Stephen Gallagher is a film and media composer from Wellington, New Zealand. His recent work includes composing the score for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and the Emmy-nominated documentary series Secrets at Red Rocks. He is also an Emmy Award winner for Music Editing on Peter Jackson’s acclaimed documentary series The Beatles: Get Back. Gallagher wrote the song "Blunt the Knives" for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and his composing work spans drama, documentary, genre films, and international television. His scores include the multi-award-winning Puppet Killer, the documentaries Conquering Cancer and Kimana Tuskers, and-with fellow composer David Long-the Emmy Award-winning series Inside and BBC Children’s series Mystic. His feature score for Human Traces was nominated for Best Score at the 2018 APRA Silver Scroll Awards. In addition to his composing work, Gallagher has held key music editorial roles on major films including The Hobbit trilogy, The Lovely Bones, and District 9, collaborating with filmmakers and artists such as Peter Jackson, Brian Eno, Ed Sheeran, and Nick Cave.
